Flooding
Floods are the bane of a miller’s life for the most part. Water-powered mills are almost always located in a flood plain and therefore subject the periodic excess water events. Britain Mill is no exception to this rule.
There is no historical record to be found of the earliest floods, but one in the Spring of 1993 was termed a “five-hundred year” event. The only surviving documentation is a home-made movie taken after the flood crested. A seven-minute clip can be seen here: 1993 Flood
Later floods have not been quite as destructive, but one just after Christmas 2015 comes close. In this case the water level reached the middle of the windows; about 56″ above floor level in the mill.
